#12: Personalized Wedding Gifts From Fashion Illustrator Brooke Hagel
Brooke Hagel graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in Fashion Design. Illustrating was always her favorite part of the design process, but she was told repeatedly that there was no longer any demand for fashion illustrators.
She’s now at the age where many of her friends are getting married, so she had to figure out the perfect custom gift to give them. She started drawing bridal illustrations of her friends for their wedding gifts. They’d hang in their homes, friends and neighbors would see them and want one for themselves, and before Brooke knew it she had a fledgling illustration business with brides and grooms being her core clientele.
Whether it’s a baby shower, engagement party, birthday or wedding, she pride herself on giving a gift that is so fabulous, personal, and creative that it nearly brings the recipient to tears. Brooke Hagel is an artist, always have been. That being the case, gifts that really leave an impression usually involved her personally creating something or adding that special artistic touch to customize a store bought item.
Here are some of her favorites that would make perfect custom gifts — gifts that stand out from the crowd and have that personal touch.

#9: real wedding [cherie & larry] silhouette theme
I love this Silhouette Wedding Theme of Cherie and Larry.
The initial outline of silhouette that was used throughout were created by Jamie who has a store called BlueClara at Etsy. Cherie sent her some photos of profiles that Larry and she took at the Tech museum in San Jose. Cherie had cookie cutters made by Victor Trading Co and brought them to a local bakery here in Alameda called Boniere Bakery. They made the cookies with sugar cookie dough and white and grey royal frosting.

Since they were having guests take home some candy after their afternoon affair, Cherie made a logo for the bags that would bid them a good afternoon in English and Tagalog, “Magandang Hapon” and “Good Afternoon.” She used the silhouettes that Jamie made them and used her handy Gocco to screenprint/stamp them onto paper bags that they got from Paper Mart. Cherie made the streamers using goldenrod and grey ribbons from Britex and glued them onto wooden dowels from a local hardware store. she also made a little note for guests asking them to wave the streamers when they go down the aisle.
Cherie found this Filipino-American wedding featured in Martha Stewart Weddings and borrowed the idea of making cocktail swizzles using bamboo drink stirs and small labels that read, “Mabuhay,” a Filipino greeting that means, “Long Live!” Cherie also printed labels that read, “L’ Chaim,” a Jewish greeting that means, “To Life!”

Cherie really liked the look of framed silhouettes and felt cut-outs so she cut out their silhouettes on felt (using the silhouettes made for them by Jamie), glued them on to a grey background, framed them in embroidery hoops and put a grey velvet ribbon to hang them on the chairs.

Kristin from Twin Ravens Press in Eugene, Oregon did all the graphic design and letterpress printing for them. She even wrote a blog post with in-depth details on the design process. Cherie screenprinted the wedding website insert using her Gocco and typed and rubber-stamped the text/graphics in the programs.
